The Goethe-Zertifikat B2 certifies an advanced command of German: you understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, and you interact with native speakers with genuine fluency and spontaneity. It is the level where your German shifts from merely functional to truly independent.
The exam is fully modular: the four parts (Lesen, Hören, Schreiben, Sprechen) are booked, taken and passed separately, with a pass mark of 60% per module, and any single module can be retaken on its own. Recognised throughout Germany, B2 is frequently required for university admission and skilled-worker visas.
